Red Faction: Guerrilla

Red Faction takes place on Mars and the player assumes the role of Alec Mason. Alec has come to the Red Planet looking for work as a miner and to reunite with his brother, Daniel, who is already on Mars. Shortly after meeting his brother, Alec is asked to join the renegade group Red Faction, a guerilla force of freedom fighters who seek freedom from the oppressive and tyrannical Earth Defense Force or EDF.

Red Faction: Guerilla is played out in a non-linear fashion in which the player will take on missions that will involve destroying EDF property, killing EDF personnel, rescuing hostages and stealing vehicles.

Violence

Red Faction: Guerilla is a third person action game that features the GeoMod 2.0 technology. Basically, every structure in the game is built with physics that mimic real life and will realistically react to explosive forces such as bombs, mines, and missiles.

The amount of destruction that can be done in this game is second-to-none thanks to the GeoMod 2.0 engine. The player will be fighting literally hundreds if not thousands of EDF soldiers. The game does feature blood when the player shoots opponents but it is not excessive, nor did I see any type of body dismemberment in the game.

Language

The game features very mature language and I frequently encountered the following words.
-The “F” word
-Damn
-Hell
-A**
-Sh*t
-GD

It should be noted that the language is primarily from the people that walk around and can be completely random. On some play sessions I would encounter only a couple of words and on others I would hear quite a bit, so there is really no way of tracking how many times one might here these words on a complete play through.

Sexual Content

The game is very clean in this category and did not feature any sexual content.

Spiritual Content

This game does not focus on religion or any kind of spiritual matters at all.

Reviewer’s Thoughts

The blood and gore in Red Faction is mild compared to other M rated titles, but there is still a lot of killing in the game. The game also features some very excessive language, which might not be suitable for younger or immature players. With that said, I would recommend that parents keep in mind the M rating when deciding if this game is appropriate for your family or not.
