Game Description:

Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse is a re-imagining of the classic Sega Genesis game back from 1990. The premise is very simple. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse are on a nice romantic picnic when all of a sudden a witch named Mizrabel kidnaps Minnie. Mizrabel takes Minnie back to her castle where she plans to cast a spell on Minnie that will transfer all of Minnie’s beauty to Mizrabel making Mizrabel looking young and beautiful again, but in turn making Minnie old and ugly.

So Mickey Mouse sets out to the Castle of Illusion where he must traverse through different rooms which take him to magical lands (such as a level full of sweets where Mickey has to face off against a dragon made of red licorice) in order to collect the Rainbow Gems from Mizrabel’s minions. This in turn will allow Mickey to build the Rainbow Bridge which leads Mickey to the final encounter with Mizrabel.

Reviewer’s Thoughts

Many Sega fans consider the original Castle of Illusion to be one of the best games to come out on the Sega Genesis. Because of all the hype surrounding this remake, I was very excited to play this game, especially since I did not have a chance to play the original as a kid. While I found Castle of Illusion to be a decent game, it was not as exciting as I had hoped it would be. Still fans of the original or just fans of Disney and Mickey Mouse will most likely find something to enjoy here.
