Aside from Tetris, Lumines, Cuboid and few other puzzle games, my wife doesn’t really care for video games. When I got my Wii, however, my kids and I were able to coax her into trying bowling on the original Wii Sports and she actually genuinely enjoyed it. I have also heard other countless stories of people who normally do not play video games, but they gave Wii Sports a shot and they loved it.
Well now Nintendo has given us Wii Sports Resort and as fun as the original Wii Sports is, Resort in my opinion is 100 times better. To begin with there are now 12 different events instead of 5 and each event can also be broken down into sub-events. Bowling and Golf are back, but this time the scope of the game is much bigger, especially golf which gives the player 2 different 18 hole courses. There is also Air Sports, Archery, Basketball, Canoeing, Cycling, Frisbee, Power Cruising, Swordplay, Table Tennis and Wakeboarding.
Plus, the game also comes with Nintendo’s new Wii Motion Plus device which plugs into the bottom of the Wii-mote and creates an even better sensation of actual motion control then the Wii-mote did alone.
What Parents Need to Know
One of the sports is sword play, but the only violence that happens in this sport is that you are able to knock your opponent down and sometimes they fall into the water. There is also a dog-fighting mode in the Air Sports category as a multiplayer game, but instead of shooting down each other’s plane, you have to shoot the balloons that are attached to the plane.
No bad language.
No sexual content.
No spiritual content.
A Child’s Perspective
Justin, age 11, says Wii Sports Resort is a lot of fun. He can’t wait for his dad to get a second Wii Motion Plus so that he can compete in the events against his dad and other friends.
In truth, Wii Sports Resort is more of a tech demo for Nintendo’s Wii Motion Plus, but a very fun tech demo it is. If you loved the first Wii Sports, then you will definitely want to check out Wii Sports Resort. It is also a fun game that the whole family can play together creating some good family time.
