Game Description:

I have fond memories as a child playing the game Super Mario Bros. on the original Nintendo Entertainment System. I loved that game so much that over 20 years later when I first got my Wii, the first the thing I did before even playing an original Wii game was to download Super Mario Bros. to the Wii’s Virtual Console. Over the years Mario has had many other adventures ranging from sports such as tennis, soccer and baseball to flying through the galaxy in his last 3D adventure Super Mario Galaxy. As fun as most of these games are, there is still a part of me that views the original Super Mario Bros as my favorite Mario game.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii goes back to Mario’s 2D platforming roots, but this time Mario and up to 3 other people can all play through the adventure simultaneously. The story is very simple, it is Princess Peach’s birthday and the Koopa kids come disguised in a giant birthday cake to once again kidnap the Princess. So it is now up to Mario and his friends to travel through different worlds to once again rescue Princess Peach.

What Parents Need to Know

Mario can jump on enemies as well as shoot fire balls and ice at enemies who then simply disappear.

No bad language.

Sexual Content

No inappropriate sexual content.

Spiritual Content

There is a little wizard who flies around on a broom and will use his magic wand to make certain boss fights more challenging.

Some of the levels take place in haunted houses (not scary at all) where some of the enemies are skeletons and ghosts. Skeletons simply crumble when jumped on. The ghosts look like white balls with faces, they like to chase Mario and his friends when they are not being looked at.

Reviewer’s Thoughts

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a blast to play. Personally, I like it even better than the 3D Super Mario Galaxy. Plus, with the ability for up to four people to play at the same time, this game makes a great game for the whole family to play together. If you own a Wii and you are looking for a good family game, then look no further than New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
